I'm on a mission to simplify clean + conscious living for women by sharing
crunchy-chic tips and finds in beauty, home, fashion and more.

“clean and conscious living”. . .

I mean knowing what I’m putting on my body and face, and also on my kids.

I mean reading the labels, to minimize toxins and preservatives for my family.

I mean choosing natural cleaning products that do the job without adding toxins to our environment.

I mean learning about companies doing things differently, for the greater good– and supporting them with my purchases.

I mean prioritizing my health over all else, and teaching my kids to do the same.

I mean taking steps in my own home and community to create a more sustainable planet and future.

When I say

but with imperfect action and dedication, working towards these goals means, for me, living a life I’m proud of.

The list of what we, as women, *should* be doing, and *should* care about is long–and our time and attention is in demand like never before.

My own journey has taught me that building a life that’s clean and conscious is my north star: it’s what I’m most passionate about. I believe my purpose here is to distill all the research, clear all the noise, and make it both easy and fun for you to join me along the way.

Progress over perfection, always.
80/20 rule here and everywhere.
And most of all: let’s enjoy the ride.

Because as I like to say…

life’s too short to wear bad lipstick.

not necessarily the easiest steps. . .

In some ways, my path seems pre-destined: I was even BORN on Earth Day, friends. That’s gotta be a sign, right?!

In my teens, I watched as multiple family members struggled with cancer. Shaken, I recognized the truth of the age-old adage that “health is wealth,” and committed to my own health and wellness through healthy eating and exercise.

I became a teacher, and in 2012, I was diagnosed with melanoma. At the same time, my mother was re-diagnosed with cancer. I doubled down, learning everything I could and coming to one, very clear conclusion:

Hi, I'm Jessica.

Here's my story.

The research overwhelmingly showed that what we put on and in our bodies matters–a lot–yet the US lags behind the developing world with lax and oftentimes totally absent regulation on what goes into cosmetic, beauty, and cleaning products.

I beat cancer, but there was no turning back. In 2015, my journey took me to BeautyCounter, which was a major turning point for me in finding support and camaraderie from like-minded women who were committed to doing better. Around this time, my husband and I started our family, and my commitment to the cause grew stronger as I watched my kids watch me and the choices I make.

So when it comes to “clean and conscious living”--my way of summing it all up–it’s personal.

We are more than our genes: we have the power to take control of our health, our communities, and our environment to create healthier, sustainable lifestyles that support us in becoming strong and resilient.

Travel and family, forever, I also love exploring with my kids and trying new restaurants in the city.

born on earth day!

I'm happiest connecting with other women.

My own health and self-care is an ever-evolving journey that I'm commited to for the long haul--for myself and for my kids.

Where it all began! Maybe my birthday is just a coincidence, but even as a kid I was passionate about finding ways to protect our Earth and contribute positively to the community.

As a teenager, I watched multiple family members fight cancer. I realized the importance of eating well and exercise, and there was no turning back.

My diagnosis rocked my world; and then I got down to work. I dug into every piece of research I could find and the consensus was clear: what we put into and on our bodies matters, greatly.

Finding the like-minded community and powerful female leadership in BeautyCounter was like coming home. I'm so proud of the work we do here to affect real, important change.

Today, I'm excited about the future. I'm pursuing a  leadership certification to help Chicago onto a more sustainable path, continuing to grow with BeautyCounter, and most importantly, I'm continuing to share my own learnings on this journey we call life.
